Jana Beňová: The Streets of Bratislava Wonderer

Born in Bratislava in 1974. Studied theatrical dramaturgy at The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava since 1992. Worked as a reporter in SME magazine, later as an editor at the Theatre Institute and cooperates with Denník N newspapers as well. For the novel Plán odprevádzania (Café Hyena) [Seeing People Off (Café Hyena)], she was awarded the 2012 EU Prize for Literature and her book was translated into twelve languages including English, French, or German. Her latest work Flanérova košeľa [Slob‘s Shirt] describes the life in the Capital of Slovakia: „The slob is moving through the city like a wanderer through the forest. Jana Beňová spent two years in the slob’s shirt wandering the streets of Bratislava. The book is the result of her observations, experiences and interviews with the people from the street.“
